Anwardi began life as a journalist with the New straits Times and a part time cartoonist in 1976. Joined STMB or TV3 as its pioneer member and helped set up its production department. Created and produced its longest running series - a cooking show Kuali and a women's programme Nona. Left TV3 and became an independent filmmaker and worked as an assistant director to John Milius in the Farewell to the King. Later turned to independent Tv movies but debuted as a feature film director-writer with Tuah in 1989. Won the Jury Prize at the Asia Pacific Film Festival in Jakarta in 1990. Second son to award winning filmmakers Datuk Jamil Sulong and Datin Rosnani Jamil. Wrote and directed his first animated movie Budak Lapok in 2002. He directed Ah Loke Kafe which won Best Child Actor award for Sean Lee at the Malaysian Film Awards. He is now a publisher of Malaysia's first magazine on film and creative content.
