C.J. Laing
Porn star C.J. Laing was born Wendy Miller on August 1, 1956 in New York City. She first became involved in the adult cinema business while living in San Francisco (she was a groupie for the rock band Grateful Dead). She made her debut in a series of loops called "Juke Joint" made by the Mitchell Brothers of Behind the Green Door (1972) fame. After returning to New York, C.J. appeared in her first theatrical adult feature in 1975 while still in her late teens. She went on to act in over 50 adult films and loops in a brief, yet eventful, career lasting a mere five years. She was usually cast in victim roles (she gets brutally raped in both Sex Wish (1976) and The Taking of Christina (1976)). Her sex scenes tended to be quite raw, intense and kinky. They often involved such extreme carnal acts as anal penetration, bondage and fisting. Among the top East Coast directors C.J. regularly worked for were Radley Metzger, Roberta Findlay, and Shaun Costello. Her most memorable roles include the lead as the neglected and frustrated young housewife Nora Pelham in Anyone But My Husband (1975), a much mistreated hooker in the shocking Dominatrix Without Mercy (1976), the sexy reporter Roberta in Barbara Broadcast (1977) and the hard-bitten vice detective Irene Murray in the notorious roughie Water Power (1977). In the late 1970s, C.J. performed in live shows at the Mitchell Brothers' O'Farrell Theatre and several other San Francisco area strip clubs also owned by the brothers. She openly admits having had problems with drugs during her 1970s heyday and never took acting in adult films seriously. In the early 1980s she was romantically involved with adult cinema superstar Harry Reems. They lived together for a short spell in Malibu, California. C.J. was inducted into the X-Rated Critics Organization Hall of Fame as a film pioneer and into the AVN Hall of Fame in 2005 for her strong and impressive contributions to the "Golden Age of Porn".
As of this writing, C.J. Laing lives in San Francisco, California.
