Elmano Sancho
Elmano Sancho has worked mostly in Portugal, France and Spain. He is bilingual in Portuguese and French and is fluent in Spanish and English. He holds a diploma in training for actors from the School of Theatre and Cinema in Lisbon and has also studied in Madrid (at the Royal School of Drama), São Paulo/Brazil (at the University of Sao Paulo) and in Paris (at the Conservatoire National Supérieur D'Art Dramatique de Paris).
He has performed in various countries, namely Portugal, Spain, France, Italy, Belgium, Brazil, Iran, Japan, Greece, Cape Verde, U.S.A.,Turkey, Chili, China. He has worked with Artistas Unidos, Teatro da Garagem, Teatro dos Aloés, Teatro Experimental de Cascais, Ensemble - Sociedade de Atores, Jorge Silva Melo, Emmanuel Demarcy-Mota, Rogério de Carvalho, Ana Tamen, Miguel Abreu, Maria João Miguel, Paulo Lage, Carlos Avilez, Pedro Gil,... He was part of the cast of the first European theatre company (directed by Virgínio Liberti and Annalissa Bianco, Naples and Mérida Festival). He was also part of the XVIII edition of École des Maîtres directed by Arthur Nauzyciel.
He has worked, since 2009, with the company Artistas Unidos and its artistic director Jorge Silva Melo . He played in " The Weight of Reasons" (2009), " Oedipus the King"(2010), "New World Order"(2010).
In 2010/2011, he worked in Paris as an actor at Comédie Française, with Bruno Bayen and Jacques Allaire.
He continued his work with AU with "Love isn't to be trifled with" (2011) - nominated as best actor to Spaautores/2012 and Golden Globe awards/2011, "The Death of Danton"(2012), "Herodiade"(2012), monologue by Giovanni Testori presented at the Almada International Theatre Festival and the 2nd edition of Mirada Festival (Santos/Brazil) - nominated as best actor of the year by TimeOut magazine and nominated as best actor for the Golden Globes/2012.), " The Mistress of the Inn"(2013), "The Playboy of the Western World"(2013), and " V.I.P. Room"(2013).
During the season 2012-2013 he also works with António Aguiar in" Snow White" by Robert Walser - Festival Fringe 2013 /Madrid and Bruno Freyssinet in "The Power of Yes" by David Hare- Epidaurus Festival 2013/Greece.
In 2013/14 he worked with Artistas Unidos in " Homecoming" by Harold Pinter.
In September 2014, he directed Misterman by Enda Walsh, a project supported by DGArtes and received the SPA award as best theatre actor.
In December 2015, he directed I Can't Breathe, a project supported by DGArtes and received the special mention of the Critic Award by the Portuguese Association of Theatre Critics.
He has been nominated as best actor for the Golden Globes/2018 with Display by/and directed by Carlos J. Pessoa. He has been awarded with the Mirpuri Foundation Theatre Award Carlos Avilez/2018 with his play " The Last Station". He has been nominated as best actor for the SPAUTORES/2020 for his performance in the Wedekind's play "LULU", directed by Carlos Avilez.
He worked and studied with Siti Company (Anne Bogart) in New York from October 2014 to May 2015. In the world of Cinema and TV, he worked with Keren Ben Rafael, Odile Brook, Jorge Paixão da Costa, Hugo Diogo, Solveig Nordlund, Jérôme Cornuau, Benoit Jacquot, Valéria Sarmiento, Yuri Alves, Sérgio Graciano, Francisco Manso, Rita Nunes, Vicente Alves do Ó, Marco Pontecorvo, Marie Brand, Cristèle Alves Meira,...
He also holds a licentiate degree in Economics from the University of Oporto and a licentiate degree in Translation (French/Spanish/English) from the New University of Lisbon.
