Elsa Poblete
Elsa Poblete Bustamante, is a theater, film and television actress, and acting teacher. She is the daughter of the painter Gustavo Poblete, who was director of the School of Fine Arts at the University of Chile.
She was trained at the School of Representation Arts of the University of Chile, graduating in 1975, but upon graduation she became part of the cast of the Theater of the Catholic University of Chile, directed by Eugenio Dittborn, in which she had to fulfill important roles in the classical repertoire (Arauco tamed, Life is a dream, El burlador de Sevilla, Casa de Muñecas, La viuda de Apablaza), for which she has a beautiful and cultivated voice and a solid stage presence.
In addition to also performing in the Ictus Company, of great importance during the military dictatorship, she has participated as an actress in various theater groups: Young Theater -where she was a founding actress along with Gonzalo Robles, Carlos Matamala and others-, Teatro La Feria, Teatro de la Pasión Inextinguible (in whose foundation he participated together with Marco Antonio de la Parra and Alex Zisis), End of the Century Theater and under the direction of the most important directors such as Jaime Vadell, Ramón Griffero, Ramón López, Ramón Núñez, Gustavo Meza , etc.
She has been part of Teatro Imagen for 24 years, created by her husband, the director and playwright Gustavo Meza.
She has acted in cinema, in some fundamental titles of the last period. The border of Ricardo Larraín; Taxi for three from Orlando Lübert, No and Tony Manero from Pablo Larraín, etc. She highlights her leading role in the third soccer story, which was widely applauded by critics and for which she shared with María Izquierdo the award for best actress at the Brasilia Film Festival.
In 2003, she received the Professor Pedro de la Barra Medal of Cultural Merit from the University of Chile and the Rector's Medal awarded by the Rector of the University of Chile in recognition of her career as an actress. She is Professor of Acting and General Coordinator of the IMAGEN Theater School. She is a member of the Academy of Fine Arts of the Institute of Chile. In 2020 she will receive a tribute by the Santiago a Mil International Festival to her long career in the performing arts.
