Ioan Allen
Ioan Allen joined Dolby Laboratories in 1969 and was in large part responsible for the origination and development of the Dolby Stereo film program.
He is a Fellow of the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE) and the Audio Engineering Society (AES); he is active in U.S. and world standards organizations.
He is past president of the International Cinema Technology Association and past Engineering Director, Motion Pictures, for the SMPTE.
He is also an Adjunct Professor at The University of Southern California School of Cinema-Television and has an honorary doctorate from the University of Nottingham in the United Kingdom.
He received the 1985 Samuel L. Warner Award, given by the SMPTE for contributions to motion picture sound and in 2014 was awarded the Progress Medal.
In 2009 he received the Silver Medal Award from the Audio Engineering Society.
Mr. Allen has received five Scientific and Engineering Awards from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, including an Oscar.
