Isold Uggadottir
Ísold Uggadóttir is an award-winning director and screenwriter from Iceland. Her feature film debut, "And Breathe Normally" premiered at the 2018 Sundance Film Festival where she received the Directing Award in World Cinema Dramatic Competition.
"And Breathe Normally" has gone on to win over a dozen international award. It received 9 nominations for the Icelandic Academy Awards in February 2019 and has been released on Netflix.
Ísold's short films have premiered at such festivals as Sundance, Karlovy Vary, Telluride and New Directors/New Films, presented by Lincoln Center & MoMA, in addition to over 100 others. Her short films were honored with 6 nominations for the Icelandic Academy Awards, winning Best Short Film in both 2010 and 2011, as well as receiving numerous international festival awards.
Ísold earned her M.F.A in directing and screenwriting from Columbia University's Film Program in New York, where she accepted the Adrienne Shelly Award for Best Female Director in 2011. Her studies were supported with scholarships from New York Women in Film and Television, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association and The American-Scandinavian Foundation. Her work has also been funded by the Icelandic Film Centre, the Swedish Film Centre, the Film Center of Wallonia in Brussels, IFP/NYSCA and Frameline. Prior to Columbia, Ísold worked extensively with the Emmy Award-winning Partisan Pictures in New York City, where she edited documentary films around the clock, taking periodic powernaps on beta tape cases, in the deep of night.
Ísold is an alumna of Nordic Talents, Berlinale Talent Campus, IFP/Emerging Narrative, Film Independent's Screenwriting Lab, Hamptons International Film Festival's Screenwriter's lab and Cine Qua Non in Mexico.
Screen International named her "one of the rising stars of Icelandic film". The Match Factory handles sales for her feature, And Breathe Normally.
