Ziggy Elman
Famed trumpeter, composer ("And the Angels Sing"), and conductor, a member of the orchestras of Benny Goodman and Tommy Dorsey between 1936 and 1943. He served in the US Army Air Corps during World War II, then rejoined the Dorsey orchestra in 1945 (to 1947). Later he formed his own orchestra, and appeared in films and made many records. Joining ASCAP in 1961, his chief musical collaborator was Johnny Mercer, and his other popular-song compositions include "Forgive My Heart" and "Zaggin With Zig".
