APRIL has worked in the music industry since she was fifteen as a performer, producer, talent coordinator, talent scout, and writer. She has performed in concert and on recordings as both lead and background singer working with artists like David Bowie, Peter Allen, Ronnie Spector, Mavis Staples, James Ingram, Isaac Hayes, and Steven Tyler as well as the Oscar winning composer Alan Menkin (The Little Shop of Horrors. The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, etc) and Tony nominated Michael Cory (Grey Gardens). She's been a staff songwriter for several music publishers including Grammy winners Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil, and Warner Chappell Music. Her songs have generated platinum sales. As a session singer she's sung on hundreds of jingles, including spots for Blockbuster, Jeep, Chevrolet, Pontiac, Northwest Airlines, Nestea, Sprint, Mazda, Tropicana, Buick, Bubble Yum, Burger King, Sprite, Taco Bell, Subway, Save the Oceans Foundation, Goodyear and many others. A native New Yorker, she was a founding member of the infamous Intense Family Theatre whose midnight performances at the ElginTheater on 8th Ave are legendary. April was also a member of the award winning group Theatre Tribe here in Los Angeles. She's appeared in several of their productions, including the West Coast premiers of Landford Wilson's "Book of Days", which received a Drama Critic's Circle Award, and "Sympathetic Magic". Besides doing stints in movies like "Fame", she has continued to do film and theater on both coasts. Most recently she starred in the two character play by Donald Margulies ,"Collected Stories", which opened in LA at the Odyssey Theater and then went on the the Fringe Festival in Edinburgh Scotland, both to fantastic reviews! Recently she created, co-wrote, produced and acted in a pilot called "Dating Until Death".

April was born and raised in Richmond/Vancouver, British Columbia. Although she had always loved acting and film, she was afraid to pursue a career in this field and opting to go into law. After practicing criminal defense law with prominent Vancouver attorneys, she moved to Toronto, Ontario, where she added family protection and family law to her areas of practice. Dissatisfied with the legal culture and "the system", she left law after the birth of her daughter and spent a number of years as an unhappy bureaucrat before shaming herself into pursuing acting and writing opportunities. April is looking forward to the next phase of her midlife crisis.
April Michelle Lerman was born on February 6, 1969 in Chicago, Illinois. She was cast as Tessie in the 1st National Tour of "Annie" on her ninth birthday. She was picked for the movie version of the musical in 1982 where she played a different character named Kate. She then went on to become a regular cast member of the sitcom "Charles in Charge" (1984), where she played the boy crazy Lila Pembroke. After the first season, the series underwent a massive cast change, and April was replaced. She continued to work as a guest star in other television shows, such as "Kate and Allie," "Growing Pains," and "Parker Lewis Can't Lose." April's mother Phyllis was the driving force behind her, making sure that she received her education, while she continued to act. April graduated Magna Cum Laude from University of California Los Angeles with a Bachelor's degree in English. She also appeared in an embarrassing film titled Rock and Roll Fantasy (1992), in which she had some nude scenes. Disenchanted with her acting career, she left show business and attended Pepperdine University School of Law and received her Juris Doctorate Degree. She was admitted to the California Bar in 1995, but April opted not to pursue the legal profession believing that it would have been too stressful for her. Instead, she married attorney William Pearson Haney III and started using her married name April Haney. She became a stay-at-home mother to their son Sean William Haney. She had a wonderful time being at home with him. However, when her son turned seven years old, April went back to school and earned her Master's degree in Counseling Psychology from University of Santa Monica. April worked as a school counselor with children and adolescents in grades kindergarten through eighth grade. She also worked at California Graduate Institute Counseling Center in Los Angeles. In 2006, she appeared in the documentary "Life After Tomorrow," where she and other former child actresses, including Sarah Jessica Parker talk about their experiences working in the musical Annie. In 2009, April worked as a Registered Marriage and Family Therapist Intern at Community Counseling Group, Westlake Village, California. She also works as a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist at Vantage Point in Thousand Oaks, California. Her husband filed for divorce from her in 2012, which was finalized in 2015.
