She wrote her third novel The Seven Rivers as a sequel to Iceburg based on her life growning up on the waterfront surrounded by an all white neighborhood in the late seventies and early eighties on the outskirts of Annapolis Maryland. Cynthia Hill is a Durham, NC-based filmmaker known for crafting story-driven and visually-rich documentaries that chronicle the complex details of everyday lives. Hailing from Pink Hill, a rural crossroad in eastern North Carolina, Cynthia is co-creator and director of PBS documentary series SOMEWHERE SOUTH which debuted in March 2020 and A CHEF'S LIFE which wrapped after five seasons as only one of four food television shows to win a Peabody Award. In 2015, Cynthia received the Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Directing for her work on the show. The series has been nominated for multiple honors and received the 2016 James Beard Award for Outstanding Personality/Host. Cynthia's is also director and creator of ROAD TO RACE DAY (executive produced by Peter Berg), which premiered on Sony's Crackle in July 2020 and debuted on Verizon's go90 in 2017. The series follows Hendrick Motorsports NASCAR drivers Chase Elliott, Dale Earnhardt Jr., Jimmie Johnson, Kasey Kahne, and their race teams. Cynthia's previous documentary work includes PRIVATE VIOLENCE, which debuted at Sundance, premiered on HBO, and garnered Cynthia an Emmy nomination. Other producer/director credits include TOBACCO MONEY FEEDS MY FAMILY, THE GUESTWORKER, and FEBRUARY ONE. Cynthia is co-founder of the Southern Documentary fund, a nonprofit organization established to support place-based storytelling. She is currently directing a crime documentary that is in development with HBO. Cynthia is the mother of two awesome daughters, Sadie and Ruby.
In addition to her film and television work, Cynthia appeared on Broadway in the American company of "Marat/de Sade", in the off-Broadway production "Me Candido," and in regional theaters and summer stock.
