Célia Alturas was born in Mozambique, raised in Portugal, Studied in New York and is currently based in London. Since very little her love for performing arts/story telling became clear: Dance, Sing, Acting and writing stories were her passions whether on stage or on screen. Nevertheless, the screen was postponed due to the surrounding circumstances - an almost non existing film industry at that time in Portugal. So she decided to begin in dance as she believed it should be the base of her performance. After having completed higher education at the Superior School of Dance in Lisbon, she started working as a professional with independent creators within the field of Physical Theatre and Contemporary Dance. Afterwards, she mostly worked as an actress in the most important theaters in Lisbon, Spain and Mozambique and also in TV and Cinema: Joseph and the amazing technicolor dream coat at CCB Lisbon; Luisa Fernanda, in Teatro Real, Madrid; The rebel daughter, in D. Maria II, National Theatre; Invisible Lisbon at Meridional Theatre; Soap Opera, Ties of Blood; TV series, Enchanted Forest, among others. Célia also developed her creative work as a director on stage, being her most important one the FICA Project (Training, Exchange and Artistic Creation) co-produced by the Gulbenkian Foundation and the Mozambican Government CNCD. A project of Music, Dance and Theatre developed and staged in Maputo/Mozambique. Nevertheless, Cinema had always been her passion. Later, she was given a grant to study acting for film and theatre in New York at Michael Howard Studios, where she was encouraged by Bill Svanoe to continue writing when he revised her short film script, Asleep. Therefore, she produced, starred and later released Asleep in the festival circuit. It has been nominated and awarded, including Best Drama short at Goldstar Movie Awards (New Jersey), and Best Actress presented to her at Festigious I.F.F. (Los Angeles). Célia is based in London, represented by Brown and Mills Talent Agency. She's participated in TV series, Feature Films, Short Films, produced by companies such as Working Title TV or Disney, and she's been developing her career as a filmmaker (Actress/writer/producer). Her main projects in development at the moment are the feature film Galhorp, and the animation short script, The flight of the bat, about the Covid 19 pandemic in which she's involved in the original music composition.
