Elizabeth Laidlaw was born in North Carolina and raised in Chicago, Illinois. She began seriously pursuing acting as a career as early as high school, during which she performed leading roles both at school and in local theatre companies, and even helped to found a traveling youth theatre while still in high school. After graduating from Illinois Wesleyan University with a BFA in Performance and Directing, she returned to Chicago and started busy career as a stage actress, earning a Joseph Jefferson Nomination with her very first Chicago performance, in John Patrick Shanley's "The Big Funk", with Strawdog Theatre Company, where she is now a member emeritus. She earned a Joseph Jefferson Award for her performance in Robert Shenkan's "The Kentucky Cycle". Around this time she put her career on hold and traveled to London to take part in The Royal Academy of Dramatic Art's Shakespeare Training program. During her career in Chicago she has performed with many venerable Chicago theaters, including Chicago Shakespeare Theatre, Court Theatre, Writer's Theatre, The Goodman and Steppenwolf. In 2003 she founded Lakeside Shakespeare Theatre, a classical company made up of Chicago-based talent that travels to Northern Michigan to perform free outdoor Shakespeare in the summer months. She also maintains steady work as a voice talent for television, radio, industrial and internet. In addition she has appeared in a number of full-length feature films and shorts, all produced by Chicago-based filmmakers. In 2015 she starred in Stephen Cone's critically acclaimed film, Henry Gamble's Birthday Party, and had a featured role in Cleveland Abdustion. Television credits include recurring roles on "Boss" and "Crisis", as well as appearances on 'Betrayal", "Chicago PD", and "The Chicago Code". In 2018 she was cast in the series regular role of Officer Victoria "Vic" Renna on "The Red Line", produced by Ava Duvernay and Greg Berlanti for Warner Bros and CBS Television.
Elizabeth Dean Lail (born March 25, 1992) is an American actress. She is known for her role as Anna in the ABC adventure fantasy television series Once Upon a Time. Lail was born in Williamson County, Texas, to her parents, Dean Franklin Lail and wife Kay Lurene Surratt. She has one older sister. Lail grew up in Asheboro, North Carolina. After graduating from Asheboro High School in 2009, she attended the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, graduating in May 2014. Lail mostly worked in student film productions, such as Model Airplane and Without, immediately after graduating from university.[citation needed] She had moved to New York City to pursue stage work when she landed an audition for ABC's Once Upon a Time, after which she was cast as Anna in the fourth season of the series. Lail was cast in a starring role in the Freeform horror series Dead of Summer playing the role of camp counselor Amy. Her latest film is entitled Checksum, a chilling dystopian tale in which she plays the dual lead role of both a human and virtual version of her character.
