Kent Weed, President of A. Smith & Co., was born into a well-established entertainment family. His father, Gene, was a famous disc jockey and successful producer and director for Dick Clark Productions. Kent obtained his early entertainment experience working on music song films now known as music videos. In his early twenties, Weed turned his career interests towards television and headed a cable production company where he produced over 300 hours of programming a year. By his mid-twenties, Weed established himself as a premiere variety-format television director. His directing accomplishments included the high rated The Smothers Brothers Thanksgiving Special, The World Music Awards, Farm Aid for ABC; All That Jazz, Lance Burton, Houdini's Secrets and The World's Greatest Magic for NBC. In the 1990s, Weed took on the producing responsibilities for many of the television shows he directed. These shows include The World Music Awards and Champions of Magic for ABC; Made in the USA (pilot) for NBC and Gamepro, which was produced for syndication. Although he did continue working on variety television shows such as Penn & Teller for FX, and the four-hour live music special Paris By Night, Weed added to his repertoire by directing comedy programs, such as the syndicated sketch comedy show The Newz, and Nickelodeon's Roundhouse; and reality projects, ranging from clip shows to dramatic recreations, such as Museum of TV & Radio for Fox; Comedy Classics for CBS; and What Happened? and Made in the USA for NBC. In November of 2000, Weed joined forces with longtime friend Arthur Smith to form A. Smith & Co. Productions. As President of the company, Weed serves as Executive Producer on all A. Smith & Co. Productions shows. Some of the company's highlights include Fox Prime Time hits, Hells Kitchen, Kitchen Nightmares, The Swan, Skating With Celebrities, Paradise Hotel and Celebrity Duets. For 2009, Weed has secured over a dozen new commitments for cable and network television which will be announced shortly. In addition Kent also takes on the Directing duties of many of the shows. Weed lives in Venice, California with his wife Alexandra and his son Christian.
