Rodney Lucas
Brought up on the South Side of Chicago and now based in Brooklyn, director Rodney Lucas creates documentary and commercial work that is uniquely attuned to the language of the streets. A self-made artist through and through, Rodney began his career as a set design assistant for a company that worked closely with Annie Leibovitz. He went on to serve as an on-air host for VICE media, having first gained experience in the music industry as an acclaimed touring artist. He's also released works with the London-based platinum-selling group, Bastille. Filmmaking eventually became Rodney's full-time passion, and he went on to create Southside Films, a cinematic house focused on collaborative Black storytelling. He now travels the world creating short documentaries, commercials, and branded content for the likes of Adidas, Beats by Dre, US Bank, Amazon, Square, Nike, Vice, Dicks Sporting Goods, Puma, Clarks Originals, Verizon, and Toms Shoes. Activating media as a vehicle of understanding, Rodney proudly utilizes commercial filmmaking as a cultural unifier. At the 2024 Tribeca Film Festival, Rodney is set to release his film Black Hercules, a documentary film about Black Bodybuilders. His other awards include a Tribeca X, a Webby, 13 Telly Awards, 3 AdStar awards, and a shortlist spot at Cannes Lions.
Rodney Luis Aquino
Born and raised in Gainesville, Florida, Rodney Luis Aquino's imagination was inspired by the comedy of late-night television and the adventure films of the 1980s. With a Bachelor's of Science Degree from Full Sail University, Rodney learned all aspects of filmmaking from formulating an idea, to creating a script, to developing the project from hiring a crew, to casting to post production. Before college, Rodney served twelve years with the United States Air Force where after the events of September 11, 2001, he was deployed to Doha, Qatar and then after the war with Iraq, he was again deployed to Doha, Quarter in 2003. Through the experience he gained while in the military, his organization and discipline skills have made him an extremely effective director. Rodney has directed over 30 projects which includes commercials, music videos, and short films, PSA's, Feature Films and a Documentary. He also has set experience on several Network Television shows for CBS as well as Showtime where he has contributed his organization skills in both the Accounting Departments as well as Covid Compliance Officer. As an award-winning Director, Rodney's dedication to his craft and a willingness to work with other departments has made him a valued asset to any production team.
